Cosmelan Depigmentation Procedure
Advanced Correction. Proven Clarity. Long-Term Results.
Cosmelan® is the world’s leading clinical depigmentation system, designed to target stubborn pigmentation concerns at their root — not just on the surface. At The Aesthetic Skin Clinic, we offer this gold-standard treatment for clients seeking dramatic yet safe improvement in melasma, sun damage, post-inflammatory pigmentation, and uneven skin tone.
Cosmelan works by inhibiting tyrosinase, the enzyme responsible for melanin production, which directly regulates the skin’s pigment cycle. Unlike traditional peels, this system addresses both the visible pigment and the cause, making it one of the most effective options for deep, hormonal, and recurring pigmentation.
BENEFITS
Treats Melasma + Hyperpigmentation I Improves Overall Clarity + Tone I Improve Sun Damage
-
Cosmelan® is a two-phase depigmentation treatment that targets melanin overproduction at its source. Unlike superficial peels or brightening facials, Cosmelan works within the skin’s melanocyte activity — effectively inhibiting tyrosinase, the key enzyme involved in pigment formation.
This reduces the appearance of existing pigment while preventing future formation, making it ideal for stubborn, hormonal, and deep pigmentation like melasma.
The process includes:
In-Clinic Application – A powerful depigmenting mask is applied by your skin specialist and worn for several hours (duration is customised based on skin type and condition).
At-Home Program – Following mask removal, you’ll begin a structured at-home skincare protocol using Cosmelan II cream. This reinforces results by continuing to regulate melanin production over the next 3–6 months.
The treatment delivers a progressive lightening effect, smoother skin texture, and a more even, radiant complexion — all while preserving skin health.

Melasma and hormonal pigmentation
Sun damage and age spots
Post-acne pigmentation
Uneven skin tone and texture
Resistant or recurring pigment concerns
-
Cosmelan is delivered in two phases:
1. In-Clinic Treatment: A powerful depigmenting mask applied by our clinicians, left on for several hours depending on your skin type.
2. At-Home Protocol: A customised homecare program using Cosmelan II cream and supportive skincare, monitored closely by your clinician over several months. -
Your Cosmelan journey begins with a comprehensive skin consultation, where your clinician will assess your skin health, medical history, and pigmentation concerns. Once suitability is confirmed, you’ll begin a short pre-treatment prep phase with prescribed skincare to strengthen the barrier and ensure optimal results — this is essential and tailored to your skin.
On the day of treatment, the Cosmelan mask is professionally applied in-clinic. This potent formulation remains on the skin for several hours (typically 6–12 hours), after which it is removed at home. You’ll be guided every step of the way and sent home with clear aftercare instructions.
In the following days, peeling, redness, and dryness are expected as the skin begins to renew. You’ll transition into the Cosmelan II homecare phase, where you’ll apply prescribed products to reinforce and extend your results. Ongoing check-ins and professional support are provided throughout to ensure your skin heals beautifully and pigment fades progressively.
This is a clinical commitment — one that delivers powerful, transformative results when supported correctly.

Pre-Treatment Preparation
For optimal safety and results, a pre-treatment skin prep phase using corrective products is required to:
Strengthen the skin barrier
Minimise downtime and sensitivity
Ensure even pigment release
This phase is non-negotiable and tailored to your skin’s condition.
Post-Treatment Expectations
Peeling, redness, and dryness typically occur in the first 5–10 days
Visible reduction in pigment within 2–4 weeks
Results continue to improve over 2–3 months
Long-term maintenance is supported through tailored skincare and sun protection
-
Following your Cosmelan treatment, you can expect visible peeling, redness, tightness, and sensitivity for the first 5 to 10 days. This is a normal part of the skin’s renewal process as pigment lifts and cellular turnover is accelerated.
You may experience:
Redness and heat in the skin (similar to a sunburn)
Flaking and peeling as the skin sheds pigmentation
Dryness or sensitivity, especially around the mouth and eyes
Your clinician will guide you through the process with soothing, supportive skincare and ongoing check-ins to ensure your skin remains calm and protected. SPF is essential, and strict sun avoidance is required throughout your journey.
While the most visible downtime occurs in the first week, ongoing homecare and clinical support continue for several months to deliver the full results. Most clients begin to see significant improvements in tone, clarity, and brightness within 2–4 weeks.
